Remembering Vimy Ridge Day - Thursday April 9th.

Did you know that Thursday, April 9th, is Vimy Ridge Day?

Did you know that there is actually a Vimy Ridge Day Act?

The taking of Vimy Ridge was a pivotal day in Canadian history where 3,598 Canadian soldiers died, and 10,602 Canadian soldiers were wounded at Vimy Ridge.

Watch this 7-minute video, narrated by William Shatner, in honour of those brave Canadian soldiers.

There are many videos extolling the impact of this victory on our sense of nationhood. Here is another 14-minute one by Peter Mansbridge of the CBC.

And just so you know, NATO was born uniquely out of the Canadian commitment to its allies. That's the claim in the video below. Unfortunately, many Prime Ministers have failed to maintain that high reputation of skill and preparedness established by our soldiers in both world wars.

Watch 'What Churchill Saw...' This one is a little longer (35 minutes) and worth every minute of watching. Your heart will swell with pride.

Join us on Tuesday, April 14th, for Lunch N' Learn #6: Heroes of Vimy Ridge and Flanders Fields.

You MUST register to get the Zoom link for Heroes of Vimy Ridge and Flanders Fields. These two Christians have left enduring legacies for us to inherit.

Walter Seymour Allward designed and sculpted the Vimy Memorial. Learn how, in God's providence, he was gifted with special skills and opportunities that God brought together to result in the Vimy Memorial.

John McCrae was the soldier who wrote the poem, 'In Flanders Fields', after he witnessed his friend shot by German artillery. Again, in God's providence, his love of poetry and his love of country gave the world the poem and the poppy as universal symbols to remember our veterans.

See you at noon or before noon on April 14th.
