Women, Mothers, And A Queen

Happy Mother's Day

John A. Pearson included many images, representing both human and spiritual attributes, in the Peace Tower. For example, he included Natives and women in specific roles. He represented Natives as protectors and women as nurturers. The women are portrayed surrounded by children.

The picture at the top left comes from the East Stained Glass Window of the Peace Tower.

In both panels of that picture, the architect, John A. Pearson describes the scene as this: 'a man holding sword and trumpet calls "To Arms"; at his side a child holds flowers in a scene evoking faith and courage. In the next panel, immediately below the trumpet's bell, stands a figure representing the many women who worked tirelessly ministering to the wounded and needy, while also sharing the dangers and deprivations of wartime. She bears a rod entwined with winged serpents, symbolic of her work as a healer.'

The picture on the bottom comes from the South Stained Glass Window and shows images above the head of Michael the Archangel.

The original description from the architect indicated that 'immediately above his head, a woman seated with children at her knee, symbolizes the inescapable implication of women and children in sacrifices endured in defence of liberty, honour and justice.'

The picture at the top right comes from the West Stained Glass Window.

It is supposed to represent 'Motherhood, surrounded by children.' Recently, I found the 26th Scripture verse in the Peace Tower in that picture! You can clearly see the word, 'WITH'.

If you could get a close-up view of the picture, you will read the yellow words on a black ribbon that says, 'She girdeth her loins with strength.' It comes from Proverbs 31:17. Proverbs 31 is known as the description that best epitomizes the ideal Christian woman.
John A. Pearson memorialized mothers, women and children in the Stained Glass Windows of the Peace Tower.

Happy Mothers' Day to every mother, healer and nurturer.

Lunch N' Learn #7: Queen Victoria & Victoria Day

Queen Victoria was the longest reigning monarch until Queen Elizabeth II took that title. Canada bloomed under her reign. There were many landmarks of our history attributed to her reign.

Her birthday is May 24th. Celebrating her birthday in Canada has been moved to the third Monday in May. This year, Victoria Day falls on May 18. In the spirit of Victoria Day our Lunch N' Learn session examines the reign of Queen Victoria and the impact she has had on Canada.

Click here for our Lunch N' Learn #7: Remembering Queen Victoria. Tuesday May 12th, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm EST.

Do you know the real reason why Ottawa became the nation's capital? I've been fooled, folks. I read the wrong books until I did my own research.

Do you know that at one time, the Irish came to Canada because of starvation and suffering? And it all happened under Victoria.

Do you know the link between the Governor General and the Crown? And we are in the transition period between Governors General, at the opportune time of this teaching.

Our New Governor General

One of the reasons you should study the BNA Act is because you will have the knowledge necessary to become engaged in important political decisions that influence historic changes in our country.

PM Carney just appointed the new Governor General. This link tells you the responsibilities of the Governor General.

Watch this link to CBC news story as PM Carney waxes poetic about our history when he presents Mrs. Louise Arbour. PM Carney mentions Queen Victoria's daughter Louise and her husband who was the Marquess of Lorne and a past Governor General in Canada. Listen to Mrs. Arbour's answer to whether or not she is a monarchist.

This link tells you how heartless the ex-Governors General are, They fed from the trough of taxpayers money while they live at Rideau Hall, and they continue to feed at the trough AFTER they leave office... even the disreputable one like Julie Payette who was forced to leave office.

Thank God the opposition is doing their best to keep the government's feet to the fire. Changes in our legislation happened in 1979 to give the retired Governors General access to 'retirement funds'. These huge bonuses are for 5 years of service while hobnobbing all over the world. They abuse the system just as much as petty thieves do.

-------------------------------------------------------------

And speaking of legislation, here is an update on Bill C-9. This is the Hate Crimes Bill that removes the 'good faith' clause for holding sincerely held religious beliefs so that certain parts of the Bible become 'hate literature'. I am so grateful that Faytene has invested time and processes that allows your voice be heard if you choose to do so. If you can, please make those calls.

Fast on the heels of the Bill C-9 targeting religious freedom is the next Bill, C-22. If you think the government will take away religious freedoms and be done with it, think again. This link will help you understand the obfuscation that happens at the various Committee hearings. Your history is being changed right under your noses. Please be engaged.
