Royal Ottawa Mint, Canada House & the King

Royal Ottawa Mint & Canada House (London, England)

Participants of our Protestant Legacies Walking Tour of Ottawa are strongly encouraged to visit the Royal Ottawa Mint.

You can actually see the ribbons of gold and silver coiling into HUGE rolls as they exit the furnace. You see the metal being softened and rolled flat like cookie dough, the blank coins cut out (like cookies), and then indelibly stamped with the image (and likeness) of the current monarch.

It is a fascinating place. I think it is one of the best object lessons one can find about having God's image stamped on every single human. In Genesis 1:26, 27, God said, 'Let US (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) make man in our image and likeness.'

But what does God's image look like? Well, the Bible describes Him as holy, just, compassionate, wise, loving, faithful, merciful, kind, long-suffering, and forgiving. And even though this list is not exhaustive, every human being, to some extent, has portrayed some or all of those characteristics at some point in their lives.

The corollary is also true. Every human being has also exhibited the exact opposite of those characteristics and recognizes when someone acts in a way that shows the opposite of God's character. The opposite of God's character is recognized as 'wrong' in other people.

The point I make at the Ottawa Mint is that just like the coins, we do not have a say in whose image is stamped on us.

Denying it does not change its veracity. God's attributes are latent, and He develops various aspects of his character in us because He gives gifts to men... even evil men who exhibit the exact opposite of His character.

Why Do We Have A King?

Some people balk at the notion that King Charles is still the King of Canada. We should all be asking, WHY has God allowed Canada to have a King in 2025, albeit one in title only and not in function? He does not make political decisions for us.

This is the very reason ChristianRoots Canada exists... so Christians can look backwards to understand our origins.

Listen to the High Commissioner to England, Ralph Goodale, as he gives a brief history of the metamorphosis of Canada from a dominion under England, to a dominion of equal standing. Notice the giant floor map of Canada on which he is standing.

If you would like to visit Ottawa during King Charles III's visit, here is his itinerary. Scroll down the page to the relevant section.

Here are some functions and attributes of the British Monarchy that I think, compare and contrast with King Jesus' rule in Canada, whether we acknowledge His rule ot not.

  • Canada was birthed from the British monarchy. Their parliamentary system of government is 'stamped' on our country's image. Christians experience a new 'spiritual birth' in Christ so we can reflect His image if we follow His commandments.
  • Just like Ralph Goodale is a High Commissioner (or Ambassador) representing Canada's foreign policies to nations abroad, so, Christians are ambassadors for Christ, speaking for and on His behalf, living holy lives, and using His words to speak and act like Him to draw others to Him.
  • The South and East windows of the Peace Tower display some of the character and nature of the messianic king, King Jesus. Facing Wellington Street is Psalm 72:1, and on the east side is our motto, Psalm 72:8.
  • King Charles is the symbol of 'godwill' to his subjects as demonstrated in his support for many charities, whether misguided or not, and established in his name. 'Good will to men' was the message of the angels in Luke 2:14. Part of that verse, 'Glory to God in the highest', is engraved on Bell #53 in the Peace Tower.
  • The King maintains contact with all Commonwealth countries that were birthed by Britain. These countries often get together (like children of the king) for mutual pursuits of common goals and values such as, democracy, good governance, the rule of law and human rights. Children of King Jesus get together weekly to learn and grow together while we serve Him.
