Providence, Pain, Legacies, & Tours

Pain & God's Providence

I have been working on this email for many weeks, a little at a time.

For the past three months, I have experienced one health challenge after another. The last five weeks have been the worst with as-yet-undiagnosed pain. The source of my unrelenting pain has not yet been discovered.

I have sought to see God's hand amid pain and suffering. I have chronicled some of my wrestling on my Facebook wall, trying to understand it from the perspective of God's providence.

We think we have figured out the problem, but an MRI to confirm our suspicions will not happen until May. So, I persevere through the pain. I thank God for the wisdom He has poured out on doctors who specialize in various fields of medicine and know what to look for. And if they don't, they ask for help from other specialists.

I am thankful for a caring family doctor and my internist who listens to what I feel in my body. I am thankful for strong medicine. I really need it and can't do without it. I will try occasionally to meet my commitments and keep ChristianRoots Canada going.

Thank you for your patience concerning fulfilling your orders. I will do my best to get them to you as soon as I can.

Ottawa Tours

I have lain in bed with my tablet, and sometimes my computer propped up on my lap, attempting to work smarter and not harder during the days that I am lucid and not drugged up.

So I have worked in fits and spurts to bring you our 'Walking Tour' which is self-guided. The Lord has brought me a skilled designer who has helped me to turn my Ottawa Tour document into a book. He has also provided me with an opportunity to print on demand with a Christian nonprofit.

Soon, you will be able to download a 'Two-Day Self- Guided Walking Tour 'Protestant Legacies That Have Endured in Ottawa'.

We are working on a book of biographies - 'Protestant Legacies That Have Endured - Ottawa' to accompany the Walking Tour.

Here is the draft cover:

John A. Macdonald's Legacy

While working on converting the Ottawa Tours into a self-guided tour - a tour that educates about the enduring legacies that the Protestants in Ottawa have left behind - I give participants a summary of the most important contribution that those Protestants have made to Canada.

I was putting together the summary of John A. Macdonald for the stop where participants will observe Sir John A Macdonald's house through a wire fence because it is being renovated. His home was built by Thomas McKay and is within walking distance from Rideau Hall. I thought to write some important things about his life. I came across this from my previous research:

  • At age 7, he saw his 5-year-old brother beaten to death by a crazed babysitter.
  • His first wife was an invalid whom he stood by until her death.
  • His first-born son died at 18 months of age.
  • His daughter was born a hydrocephalic and never approached normalcy, but she was taken care of at home.
  • Supported his invalid mother in his home until her death.
  • In 1885, he attempted to pass a bill to give aboriginals the right to vote 70 years before it became law in 1960.
  • He had written a letter to Ojibway chief Peter Jones in 1886 where he expressed the desire to see the Natives on "a footing of equality with white brothers". Natives were not given voting rites until 1960.
  • In the 1880's he became "the first national leader in the world to attempt to grant women the vote"

If you want to read articles researched and written about Sir John A. Macdonald, read these articles written by Greg Piasetzki - Metis Lawyer in Toronto. He writes for C2C Journal. Read what he has had to say about Macdonald's legacy here.

Colouring Books

The Lord has sent help to me (while flat on my back) to design a colouring book that includes all the Scripture verses highlighted on our website. You can find those pictures here.

You can pre-order your book for $7 plus shipping. Price goes up after printing. Watch for it posted on the website in the next few days.

I hope to be back with you soon. I have saved so many interesting articles from the news that I know will be of interest to you... but I can only do what my strength will allow.

And if you remember, please pray for me. Pray that the doctors will find answers soon; that I will have the MRI soon; that the walking tour booklet will be well-received in this period of national unity against real and perceived attacks, and that the projects I am working on will continue to provide me with enough focus so that I can function despite the pain.

Until next time,

Soli Deo Gloria
